Anguilla Heritage Education Grants
2012 -2014
These education grants are funded through the APANY Heritage Scholarship Fund that was started in 2011 by Anguillans residing in the United States who made charter donations to jump start the program. Since then, many friends of Anguilla have made contributions to the Fund. The fund provides $1250 dollars annually for up to four year to each grant recipient. To implement the education grant program and select awardees, APANY enlisted the help of The Optimist Club of Anguilla, a local organization that enjoys an enviable reputation for its outstanding work with Anguilla youth. On March 17, 2012, the then Presidents of the two organizations (Carlson Conner-Lloyd and Shellecia Brooks-Johnson) signed a Memorandum of Understanding that outlined the goals of the program as well as the roles that will be played by each entity.
Applications for the grant are annual and each year the Optimist Club of Anguilla selects two students for the Anguilla Heritage Education Grant. The grant received by the successful applicants will be renewed annually until the student graduates provided they maintain a specified grade point average. By its fourth year of implementation, the program is expected to be assisting eight Anguillan students. To date, the Anguilla Progressive Association of New York (APANY) and the Optimist Club of Anguilla have awarded four students with the Anguilla Heritage Education Grant.
